offsets along the doruneh fault; implications for dating sampling sites and slip rate determination

Authors
abstract

the doruneh fault is one of the longest and most prominent faults in iran. however, only two recorded historical earthquakes with magnitudes more than 7 might be related to this fault. for getting more information on this fault more investigation in different fields are required. fault displacement is one of the most important parameters needed to explore the fault activity. in this study, with the help of landsat and quickberd images of this region, several locations near bardaskan, khalil-abad, kashmar and rezg-abad are suggested for field measurement and osl sampling to improve the information on this fault.

Using IRSL to determine the slip rate of the Doruneh fault in Khalilabad

Introduction   The left lateral Doruneh Fault System (DFS), is one of the longest, and most prominent, strike-slip faults in Iran, extending from the eastern border of Iran to the central Dasht-e-Kavir with a curved geometry. DFS is the response of the convergence between the Arabian and Eurasian plates in the regional tectonic map. Regarding to scaling relationships this fault with length of ...

Paleoseismic and Slip-Rate Observations along the Honey Lake Fault Zone, Northeastern California, USA

The Honey Lake fault is a major strike-slip fault in northeastern California that accommodates northwest-directed right-lateral shear in the northern Walker Lane. We reexamine the fault’s paleoseismic history and slip rate by evaluating a natural stream bank exposure of the fault and offset terrace riser. Structural and stratigraphic relations within the modern stream cut, radiocarbon ages, and...

Holocene slip rates along the Owens Valley fault, California: Implications for the recent evolution of the Eastern California Shear Zone

One of the largest historical earthquakes in California occurred in 1872 along the Owens Valley fault located along the western margin of the Eastern California Shear Zone. New paleoseismic and optically stimulated luminescence data are the first to bracket the timing of the pre-1872 rupture to between 3.3 6 0.3 and 3.8 6 0.3 ka. These data yield an earthquake recurrence interval between 4100 a...

fault pattern and estimation of uplift rate along the high zagros thrust fault

(paper pages 133-156) zagros active fold-thrust belt lies on the northern margin of the arabian continental crust it is a young fold-thrust mountain belt currently shortening, thickening and uplifting as a result of the collision of the arabian and iranian plates. rethickening of crust during collisional orogenies could have been carried out by reversal of fault motion along the mesozoic normal...
